Soundtracks for Sorry Lives.

So instead of working on Laplace Transforms, I made a playlist of music that'll keep me awake all night. I might have failed at that, because I'm planning to hit the sack after typing this out, but it's a mighty cool playlist, and you might want to give it a spin, because you're indie and open minded like that.

Creator - Santogold. (If this beat doesn't make you roll your hips, what will? MIA-esque vocals and a throbbing beat.)
We Used to Be Friends - The Dandy Warhols (Wonderfully strong bass. Unforcefully electronic, happily peppy clapping and a dash of seduction in the vocals.)
Your Heart is an Empty Room || I Will Follow You in the Dark || What Sarah Said- Death Cab for Cutie. Morbid cuteness and jangly guitars (piano in the last case). Makes you shiver, out of the romantic or the scare, well, that's your call. And lyrics that'll make you wonder. Who's gonna watch you die?
Metropolis, The Miracle and the Sleeper || In the Name of God - Dream Theater. Complex rhythms with a steady beat that is paces perfectly to help me solve differentials.
No Ceiling, Eddie Vedder. Because it's earthy, and Vedder has the voice of a man who is almost animal. Ohyeah.
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Part 1 and 2 - The Flaming Lips. Strikes the adorable balance between serious musicosity and hilarious lyricosity.
Blame it on the Girls || We Are Golden || Rain - Mika.
Slightly baroque, always unapologetic, Mika's music is just fun. High falsettos and happytimez. And it does help that (and here I concede) he sounds uncannily like Freddie Mercury. Rain is deliciously broody. Shimmering synth and vocals. Deliciously gloomy.
Textbook Love - Fleet Foxes.
Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz.
Are We the Waiting || Extraordinary Girl- Green Day. I've always loved this song for no real reason. Crashing drums are the most likely reason. Second song is perfectly off-kilter with its tabla beginning, seguing into signature Green Day.
Undisclosed Desires - Muse. Dude, this song is teh sex. Seriously. If this song was a person I would totally want to be in said song's pants regardless of gender. Now replace song with Matt Bellamy and you get it, right?
Disconnect the Dots - Of Montreal. Ohsotrippy maaaannnnn.
Empire State of Mind - Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. One of the few songs I can stand that is legit rap because the piano is infectious.
4 Chords that Made a Million || Piano Lessons || Lazarus - Porcupine Tree. Yes, I know, these are the slightly happier/famouser PTree songs but I like them, okay?
Cosy in the Rocket - Psapp. Kitna cute hai, yaa.
11th Dimension || River of Brakelights - Julian Casablancas. I CAN'T FIGURE OUT THIS MUSIC. But I like it because it makes my head spin, geddit?
Tik Tok - Ke$ha. When I fall asleep doing Math, this hobaggity piece of shit song always wakes me up. Sure I wake up pissed off, but I wake up, which is the original objective.
Strange Love - Koop.
Somewhere Only We Know || Crystal Ball - Keane.
Biaxident - Liquid Tension Experiment. This song is again vair vair sexy. It paints a story in my head that I can never quite draw. Intriguing.
Warm Wet Circles - Marillion. This song just has a otherworldly feel to it, is it just me?
Teardrop - Massive Attack. Oh come ON, you saw this coming. If you didn't, you are bloodyfool, I say.

  1. New gorillaz album's brilliant stay-up-all-night music. also, in a very weird way, curtis mayfield (don't ask me why).
